Affiliate disclosure
Short version: Whenabouts is free. Some of our guides may link to companies that can help with the next step of your plan. If you book or buy through one of those links, we may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and every one of those links is labelled "Ad" where you see it.
Here's the longer version.
What's an affiliate link?
An affiliate link is a tracked link to another company's website. If you click it and then book or buy something, that company pays us a small share of the sale. That makes the link a form of advertising, so we treat it as one.
Does it cost you more?
No. You pay the same price whether you use our link or go to the site directly. The commission comes out of the company's pocket, not yours.
Does it change what we recommend?
No. Our guides are written to be useful first: how to pick a date, plan a budget, or choose a cottage. We decide what goes in a guide before we think about links. Where a partner fits, we'll say so and label it. Where it doesn't, we won't shoehorn one in. We'll also mention options we don't earn anything from when they're the better fit.
We'll never accept payment for a positive write-up, and we don't publish reviews or testimonials we've been paid for.
Who are our partners?
We work, or may work, with companies in these areas:
- Holiday cottage and short-break booking sites: for group weekends away
- Experiences and activities: tours, classes and things to do
- Bars, restaurants and venue booking: for nights out and Christmas dos
- Hen and stag do organisers: packages and activities
- Party and event booking: entertainment and party services
- Gifts and decorations: for Christmas and celebrations
How we label affiliate links
You shouldn't have to hunt for this, so:
- Every affiliate link is labelled "Ad", right before or next to the link, so you can see it before you click.
- If a whole section is about a partner (say a box suggesting cottages), the section starts with an "Ad" label.
- If a whole page is mainly about affiliate links, "Ad" will be in the page title too.
- We don't use vague labels like "aff" or hide the disclosure at the bottom of the page.
- Links to things we don't earn from (like our own pages, or useful sites with no deal) have no label, because they aren't ads.
What about tips?
Separate from affiliate links, you might see an optional "Buy us a coffee?" box in the app after adding your dates or confirming a plan. That's a straight tip to help run Whenabouts. It doesn't buy anything, and saying "No thanks" changes nothing.
Your data
When you click an affiliate link, the company you land on (or its affiliate network) may use cookies on its site to record that you came from us. That happens on their website, under their privacy policy. Whenabouts itself has no ads and no third-party trackers. See our privacy policy.
